Food & Farming
The food choices we make directly impact our own health and that of the planet. Farming and local food production has the potential to create great change for climate, nature and human health, and these sectors are changing fast.
Our role as farmers and producers of food is a critical part of Earth Trust’s identity and the green spaces we care for. As food producers within green spaces, we have a part to play in advocating and demonstrating food production systems and land management practices that support our priorities of biodiversity, climate and health.
We make local food and farming more accessible to enable people to support practices that are good for the soil, climate, nature and human health.
Our Farm
Our aim is to farm in a climate-friendly way, working with the environment to enhance biodiversity, minimising carbon emissions and maximising carbon sequestration, whilst producing quality food. How we Farm
Healthy soils are critical to the management of our farm and the impact it has on biodiversity and human health. Our projects
-
Species Recovery & Regenerative Farming: Cultivating a Future for Nature
Earth Trust is transforming Bessie's Field into a showcase of regenerative agriculture and agroforestry, showcasing the potential of combining traditional farming wisdom with innovative ecological practices to halt and reverse the decline in species abundance. -
Beekeeping for crop yield and wildflower pollination
Earth Trust are encouraging bees to pollinate crops and flowers in our local area with new apiaries on our farm -
Nurturing Farm Soil Health, Whole Crop Collection
Focusing on nurturing healthy soils is critical to the management of Earth Trust farm and the impact it has on biodiversity and human health. -
Regenerative agriculture training in protected landscapes
We are working with the North Wessex Downs AONB to create a local culture of sharing and learning for farmers and landowners as we face the future of farming together. -
Best practice management of grasslands and wildflower meadows
With funding from Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) developing best practice management of wildflower meadows and grasslands. -
Farm carbon audit
Earth Trust are carefully monitoring our carbon impact, creating a baseline from which to improve. Initial carbon audit of farm operations show we're carbon negative. -
Yellow Wagtail Partnership
The Yellow Wagtail Partnership is exploring the impact of different land management techniques on key species and the wider environment. -
Bessie’s field
Bessie's field, aquired in 2022, represents an exciting opportunity to further demonstrate how farming at scale can contribute to wellbeing, nature recovery, and climate change mitigation. -
Providing for pollinators
Bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators are a vital part of our ecosystems but they're under serious threat. At Earth Trust Farm we're demonstrating how pollinator numbers can be improved, without compromising food production. -
Farmland Bird Conservation
Farmland birds indicate the quality of the agricultural environment as they sit near the top of the food chain. -
Farm Step Programme
Farm Step provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for people to start their own green business.
