Remember a Charity Week: Precious memories
Remember a Charity Week (9th-15th September) is a chance to celebrate the funny moments, shared experiences and unique quirks that we remember and cherish about our loved ones, and to think about how we might be remembered through a gift to charity in your will.
A unique way to give
Leaving a legacy is a unique way of giving. It allows you to take care of family and friends, as well as thinking about your hobbies and passions, and how you’d like those to be reflected in your will. There are cost-effective ways of adding a charitable gift into your will, and you could have a lasting impact on a cause, or a place, that really means something to you.
With a gift in your will, you can decide how you’ll be remembered, perhaps as the legend that made planting a hundred trees possible? The one who made a local green space so welcoming to visit. Or the one who inspired the next generation of regenerative farmers.
A legacy gift from the Lucas family
The Lucas family had particularly fond memories of their time at Wittenham Clumps, and chose to leave a legacy gift to Earth Trust. That gift has now become the Earth Lab rainwater garden that you can see at the Centre today.
Rainwater is harvested from Earth Lab’s roof, trickling into the garden and creating an entirely new habitat that supports wildlife, and provides joy to visitors and school groups alike.
The benefits of this generous gift will be felt for many years to come, but leaving a legacy doesn’t have to mean grand gestures.
Each and every gift, regardless of its size, can make a lasting difference to people and to nature.
• £100 could support our rangers work carrying out wildlife surveys and monitoring conditions in our woodland habitats.
• £500 could provide tools and training for our volunteers to support them in managing and nurturing local wetlands.
• £1,000 could help school children to experience wild green spaces through our education programme, inspiring the green leaders of the future.
How will you be remembered?
By choosing to leave a legacy to Earth Trust, you could be remembered as the person who inspired the next generation of den-builders, Clump-climbers and skylark-saviours. You could be the person that opened doors to those who might not otherwise have been able to access green spaces. Or you could become part of a greater movement towards tackling climate change and the loss of biodiversity.
