Clay Art Workshops

Come along to our creative art workshops and harness the power of your own creativity.

Earth Trust’s Artist in Residence Nicola Fielding welcomes you to join her to ‘play with clay’, using natural clay that has been foraged from around Earth Trust Centre to create truly unique artwork.

Our Sensory Play workshop is a drop-in session designed to support families who experience autism and/or have other additional needs. We have plenty of free, on-site car parking and we’re a wheelchair friendly venue.

Come and create your own clay sculpture inspired by the famous Wittenham Clumps!

Workshop 1: Clay Clumps

Nicola will guide you through the process of designing, planning and making a small ceramic sculpture based on the fantastic wildlife that lives around The Clumps.

Once finished, your work will be dried and kiln fired before being displayed as part of a special exhibition at Earth Trust in July.

You’ll be invited to the private view event and take your piece home after the exhibition, or we can arrange for a collection at a different time.

Recommended for children aged 6-11 with an accompanying adult per family. Grown-ups are very welcome to make their own sculpture too!

Dates: Wednesday 29th May – Sorry, sold out – / Saturday 6th July
Times: 10am-12pm
Location:  Earth Trust Centre, Little Wittenham
Suitability: Children aged 6+ and adults
Price: £5 per ticket. All materials and equipment are included, as well as refreshments.

Tickets for 6th July

Workshop 2: Sensory Play

Nicola has four years of experience working as a SEND teaching assistant and loves seeing everyone able to explore creatively.

‘Stations’ will be set up to allow families to enjoy their time at the workshop in a way that is comfortable to them. We’ll be playing with and exploring the things we can make with natural clay and foraged items, creating vibrant paintings using natural inks and getting messy with charcoal mark-making.

Quiet spaces will be available to those that need them but please bring your own noise-cancelling headphones if you think they will be useful to you.

Recommended for families with primary school aged children but all are very welcome.

Dates: Wednesday 29th May & Saturday 6th July
Times: 2-4pm
Location:  Earth Trust Centre, Little Wittenham
Suitability: Adults, and children aged 4+
Price: £5 per ticket. All materials and equipment are included, as well as refreshments.

Earth Trust Artist in Residence Nicola Fielding at Wittenham Clumps

About the artist

Local Abingdon artist Nicola Fielding is the latest artist to join the prestigious selection of creatives taking up residency at Earth Trust in Little Wittenham. Working predominantly in clay, Nicola is a ceramicist who will be working from a studio at Earth Trust Centre for the next three months.

Nicola is particularly interested in using ‘waste’ materials from land management at Earth Trust’s green spaces to produce art materials such as natural inks, drawing charcoal and ceramic glazes.
