Our Oxford Half Marathon fundraisers – running for people and planet

This October, the streets of Oxford will be filled with the sound of pounding feet and cheering crowds as runners take on the challenge of the Oxford Half Marathon. But for Earth Trust, this event is about more than just personal triumphs and fast times – it’s an exciting opportunity for our supporters to come together and raise vital funds that will help us continue our mission to champion access to natural green spaces for both people and the planet.

Why the Oxford Half matters to Earth Trust

At Earth Trust, we believe that access to green spaces is a fundamental human right. Natural spaces – whether it’s a quiet woodland, a winding river path, or a wild meadow – are vital for our mental and physical wellbeing. They connect us to nature, provide opportunities for education and play, and offer essential habitats for wildlife. Yet, many people still don’t have easy access to these spaces, and as our climate changes, the pressure on the natural environment intensifies.

Our mission is to champion these precious spaces, ensuring they are nurtured, cared for and accessible to all. But we can’t do this without the support of our community. That’s why the Oxford Half Marathon is so important – it’s not just a race, it’s a chance for our fundraisers to make a tangible difference for the environment, today and for future generations.

Funding green spaces for all

The money raised by Team Earth Trust – Drew, Liam, Gavin, Lee, James, and all of our incredible 2024 runners – directly supports Earth Trust’s projects across Oxfordshire. From restoring fragile ecosystems to maintaining paths that make our green spaces accessible for everyone, every penny raised helps us continue our vital work.

Restoring and protecting natural habitats: With your support, we can continue our conservation efforts, nurturing wildlife habitats and promoting biodiversity. Our work includes tree planting, wetland restoration, and habitat creation – all crucial in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.

Ensuring public access to green spaces: We believe that everyone should be able to experience the benefits of the natural world, regardless of where they live. Your donations help us maintain and improve the green spaces we manage across Oxfordshire, ensuring they are welcoming and accessible for all, including those with disabilities.

Environmental education and advocacy: Through our environmental education programme, we inspire thousands of young people each year to develop a deeper connection with nature. We provide hands-on experiences that help them understand the importance of sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship.

The power of community

The Oxford Half Marathon is about more than just fundraising – it’s a celebration of the power of community. Our runners are a diverse group, united by a shared passion for the environment and a desire to make a difference. Whether they’re seasoned marathoners or first-time runners, every participant is making a commitment to help protect the natural spaces that we all treasure.

As they lace up their running shoes and take to the streets of Oxford, they’re not just running for themselves – they’re running for nature, for the planet, and for future generations who deserve to grow up in a world where green spaces are cherished and cared for.
