Land management
Volunteers play a vital role in the management of our green spaces which encompass over 530 hectares of woodland, wetland and farmland around Little Wittenham along with seven community reserves in Wallingford, Abingdon, Didcot, Besselsleigh and Shrivenham.
You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience to join a land management group – beginners are very welcome.
We have weekly groups who visit a variety of sites on Thursdays and Fridays. We also have a Saturday group based at Wallingford Castle Meadows and a Wednesday group based at Tuckmill Meadows, Shrivenham. These groups meet monthly.
We understand how busy people are so volunteering with us is really flexible; you don’t need to commit to every session, once registered you can come along when you are free. No experience necessary as we provide a full briefing at the start of each session and our friendly groups will help you get started.
Land management volunteers help us to:
- Create and manage wildlife habitats using a range of techniques and activities
- Carry out seasonal tasks, for instance in spring/summer grassland management, in autumn/winter – coppicing and scrub clearance
- Provide and improve access, through step building, path management and fencing
These groups can be physically demanding but there are always a variety of tasks that are offered.
We provide all necessary health and safety equipment.
