Landscapes in Oil: a ‘Plein Air’ Workshop
Led by accomplished local artist Paul Whitehouse — member of the Oxford Art Society and Reading Guild of Artists, and a 2021 participant in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year—this two-day workshop is designed to help you unlock your creativity and develop core oil painting skills. Discover the joy and challenge of painting en plein air in the stunning landscape of Wittenham Clumps.
Through a blend of indoor instruction and outdoor practice, you’ll learn to observe, interpret and respond to the landscape in a meaningful and expressive way. Paul will guide you through foundational techniques, including colour mixing, composition, and brushwork, culminating in practical painting sessions immersed in nature.
Whether you’re an absolute beginner or an artist looking to refine your skills, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to landscape painting in oils, enriched by the natural beauty of Earth Trust’s surroundings. Date: Saturday 16th – Sunday 17th August 2025
Time: 10am – 4pm each day (with a break for lunch)
Venue: Earth Trust Centre and Wittenham Clumps
Suitability: Adults & young people aged 16+
Ticket options
Option 1:£250 – includes the workshop and all materials required (oil paints, brushes, canvases – yours to keep)
Option 2: £180 – includes the workshop only (bring your own materials)
Recommended materials to bring with you if you opt for Ticket Option 2 (bring your own materials): palette knife, tear-off palette pad, student-grade oil paints, assorted flat brushes, 3 x A3 Canvas boards. Please note that a full materials list will be sent to you with your ticket order confirmation.
Other information: Some hill walking over uneven terrain is required, so please wear suitable footwear. Expect to get messy! Please wear/bring aprons or old clothes. Teas/coffees and light snacks will be available to purchase, but please bring a packed lunch both days.
