Stunning Autumn Walks
Make the most of your visit by exploring more of the Earth Trust landscape. Just a short stroll away you’ll find Broad Arboretum, where every native Oxfordshire tree can be discovered along meandering paths. In autumn, the Arboretum glows with fiery shades of red, gold and amber – the perfect backdrop for spotting yellowhammer and fieldfare flitting between the branches, or listening out for the distinctive call of the corn bunting, like keys chiming together.
For those seeking sweeping views, a climb up the much-loved Wittenham Clumps is a must. From the top of Round Hill or Castle Hill, the countryside unfolds in every direction, with red kites circling overhead and the Thames snaking through the valley below. At this time of year, the hedgerows brim with berries, the woodland floor is dotted with fungi, and the crisp air makes the far-reaching vistas all the more spectacular. Whether you wander among the Arboretum’s living library or stride up to the Clumps for an unforgettable panorama, it’s a truly special way to soak up the magic of the season.
