Earth Trust Receives Garfield Weston Foundation Grant to Connect More People with Nature
We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation, supporting our mission to enable people and nature to thrive together. This grant will help us expand our work, ensuring more people have opportunities to engage with and care for the natural environment. It comes at a pivotal moment as the charity refines its strategic focus—ensuring our work is both impactful and financially sustainable for the long term.
Earth Trust stewards some of Oxfordshire’s most cherished green spaces, including Wittenham Clumps and seven community nature reserves, welcoming over 200,000 visitors annually. This funding will directly support outdoor learning, volunteering, and public engagement activities, strengthening our role as an exemplary local landscape engaging communities while driving national impact through innovation and demonstration.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Garfield Weston Foundation for recognising the importance of green spaces in fostering wellbeing, biodiversity, and climate resilience,” said Ian Barrett, CEO at Earth Trust. “This funding comes at a crucial time as we focus on what we do best—engaging people through our nature-rich landscapes. By strengthening our core work, we can create even greater impact locally while showcasing innovative solutions that inspire change more widely.”
Through its work, Earth Trust demonstrates how natural green spaces can be managed to support both people and wildlife. With this new funding, we will enhance nature-based education, conservation volunteering, and community participation, ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to experience and protect the natural world.
