Outdoor Explorer Camp – Summer of discovery
This summer, let your child explore a world of adventure at the Outdoor Explorer Camp at Earth Trust. Set amongst the meadows, woodland and historic hilltops of Wittenham Clumps, our day time camp is designed to give children a chance to connect with nature, try new skills, make friends and enjoy an unforgettable outdoor experience.
Explore the natural history of our woodlands and meadows where wildlife hides in plain sight or discover hidden treasures buried in our landscape with our ancient history explorations. With our expert instructors to guide them, your child will get the chance to build shelters and try their hands at ancient crafts. They will learn bushcraft skills such as lighting fires, knots, wood carving and whittling and make and enjoy fireside snacks or cook up a whole feast on the campfire.
What your young adventurers can expect from our summer camp:

Day 1: Start your day at our base camp with an introduction to orienteering, before taking your new skills out on expedition across Round Hill and Castle Hill. You’ll identify and pick wildflowers from across our meadows to add to your materials for an afternoon of creative crafting. Round out the day with a pick-and-mix green buffet of ingredients harvested from our edible garden.
Day 2: Follow in the footsteps of nature scientists! Learn to hunt for insects in our edible classroom, then take your new knowledge out to forage for plants across Round Hill’s meadows. After lunch you’ll take nets to explore life in freshwaters, and learn to use microscopes to examine the smallest fo creatures. Finish off with a tasty treat cooked over a campfire.
Day 3: Experience a day in the life of the ancient people of the Clumps. Walk the Roman road in Little Wittenham, visit a traditional round house, and learn about life lived off the land. Spend your afternoon learning to spin and card wool with ancient tools, sculpt bowls and post out of clay, and challenge your new friends to Roman games! Refresh your tastebuds at the end of the day with delicious summer fruits.
Day 4: Fridays are all about fun at Earth Trust. Run free through our arboretum and learn all about our important native trees, and enjoy garden games like giant jenga at our adventure base camp. After lunch you’ll learn to harvest and whittle willow, and make a range of crafts to show off to your friends. End your week of fun by baking bread twizzlers over the fire pit, and enjoy them with honey and jam.
Our summer explorer camps will run across three weeks throughout August.
Each day offers varied activities, so whether you book a single day or the full four-day experience, there will always be something new to discover. This is a physical day spent outdoors, so children need to be up for the challenge!
