Home Educators: Summer Nature Session
Join our dedicated session for local home educators. Specially designed by our Education Tutors for families with children aged between 7-11 in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire area.
Summer Nature Session
Explore the wonderful wildlife of the Wittenham Clumps with our immersive nature session, as we bring the natural world to life. Our Summer Nature Day explores the magnificent Earth Trust landscape, investigating wildlife both big and small on our very own endangered chalk meadows, woodlands and wetlands. Spending time in nature isn’t just fun – it’s essential! Being in the outdoors brings confidence, improves focus, and enhances wellbeing, awakening a sense of wonder and helps children to develop a lifelong appreciation for wildlife and conservation.
The morning starts with foraging for wild food that connects us with nature – and if the weather’s on our side, we will use the foods in the afternoon to cook up a wild storm! Our Education Tutor Sarah will take you on a guided walk – where you will become Nature Detectives – finding clues to track down the hidden animals of Earth Trust in our meadows and woodlands. We finish our exploration with some wild art before heading back to the Earth Trust gardens for lunch.
The afternoon session is based in our beautiful gardens where you will continue your wild exploration. Will you find out how out native plants have been used for medicine, or make a wild flower bookmark? Will you get close up to minibeasts using our microscopes? Perhaps you will have a go at pond dipping and maybe find a smooth newt? We will finish around our fire pit, where we will make some seasonal foods from the foraged plants around Earth Trust – a perfect end to a day of exploration and learning. Your child will leave Earth Trust inspired and eager to learn more.
