Earth Trust is delighted to welcome back The HandleBards, the world’s first cycling theatre company! Since 2013, their two troupes (one all-male, the other all-female) have pedalled over 6000 miles across the UK to perform their unique brand of “charmingly chaotic, environmentally sustainable, bicycle-powered Shakespeare”.
Enjoy the boys troupe performing Twelfth Night on Friday 29th June and/or join us for the girls performance of Romeo & Juliet on Tuesday 17th July (discounts available when booking for both plays).
Join the all-male troupe in the beautiful gardens of the Earth Trust Centre, at the foot of the Wittenham Clumps, for their interpretation of Twelfth Night. Bring a picnic and settle down for an evening of “gloriously eccentric” outdoor theatre. Light refreshments will be available.
For those not familiar with the play…
Duke Orsino is in love with lady Olivia, but she won’t have anything to do with suitors. Viola is shipwrecked and believes her twin brother Sebastian to be dead. She pretends to be a boy and becomes a servant to Orsino. Olivia falls in love with Viola, believing her to be a boy, whilst Viola falls in love with Orsino. Then Viola’s twin turns up…
Meanwhile, Sir Toby Belch (Olivia’s uncle), Sir Andrew Aguecheek (his friend), Maria (a maid) and Feste (a jester) plot to make a fool out of the pompous Malvolio (Olivia’s head steward).
In usual HandleBards style, we can expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter!
