During Winter 2019/20, we are partnering with DigVentures to undertake extensive archaeological exploration at our site in Little Wittenham, ahead of our Gateway project. This will allow us to discover more about how people in the past lived and used the green spaces we look after today.
As part of our archaeology season, we are inviting the public to come and see the dig for themselves through a number of events, including tours and Finds Lab sessions.
In 2020, there will be further opportunities to get involved through a community dig. Details will be announced soon, so do keep an eye on our archaeology page.
Tour the dig site
Join an archaeology tour to witness the dig in action. You’ll find out why the excavation is taking place, and what’s been found in previous explorations at Earth Trust. The tour will start with a fascinating history walk around the Wittenham Clumps to find out more about their past, as well as to learn about the Earth Trust and the Gateway project. You’ll then be taken on a guided tour of the dig site to meet archaeologists from DigVentures, see their discoveries and find out about Oxfordshire thousands of years ago.
An excavation is constantly evolving, with new discoveries being made every day. Come along to find out what, or who, we discover!
The tours will take place on specific Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 2019 to February 2020, either at 10am or 1pm; all dates and times are listed below.
