Spring – the perfect time to thank you

By Jayne Manley, CEO

Are you, like me, more eager for spring this year and grateful that it has at last arrived?  I think that those who love nature receive the greatest gift at this time of year, new life and green growth, clear skies, big moons and longer and warmer days. Spring reminds us of the Earth’s normal yearly patterns and cycles, and in these difficult Covid-19 times gives us a point of stability. The nature it brings with it gives us joy with physical, mental and spiritual relief.

Normally at this time of year I would be encouraging everyone to go out and explore, welcoming you to natural green spaces. In times when our movements are so restricted it has become apparent that the green places we take for granted are not now available to us in the way we expect.  If anything positive comes from this, I hope people will begin to understand the natural world, appreciate that green spaces are important for us all – for our health and wellbeing – and that we, as individuals and as a society, need them.

With all that is going on right now, I feel even more deeply that Earth Trust needs to stand up for accessible natural green spaces. We need to demonstrate the need to care for and champion access to and understanding of the living world. We want everyone to benefit from an interconnected network of green-ness that is our natural health service. And what is clear is that there are an increasing number of you that are recognising the importance of Earth Trust now, more than ever before.

I would like to thank those who have held out their hand with support for Earth Trust during these turbulent times. These gifts have come in many forms: some who had previously booked their special celebrations with us and have now converted some or all of their refundable deposits into donations, families who have chosen to give the price of their Lambing tickets when the event was cancelled, those who have taken out Friends membership because of the importance of green spaces in their lives.

This support from individuals means so very much as we try and find ways to make up for a significant loss of income that we are suffering and navigate a path through the challenges of this pandemic.

So, thank you from everyone at Earth Trust, for supporting us as we stand up for green spaces that are welcoming and wildlife-rich. Your donations at this time will help to protect our core services as we care for and make accessible these green spaces for everyone’s benefit.
